A retrospective analysis was carried out on data from 45 patients treated for type A aortic dissection at our institution between 2018 and 2020. Twenty-one patients treated with tolvaptan (Group T) and twenty-four patients receiving traditional diuretics (Group L) were among those included. We sought to establish a relationship between left atrial appendage (LAA) morphology and thrombus development in patients with severe aortic valve stenosis and atrial fibrillation.
Our study examined 231 patients with atrial fibrillation and severe aortic valve stenosis who were slated for trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) between 2016 and 2018. A pre-interventional CT scan allowed us to evaluate the morphology of their left atrial appendage (LAA) and the presence of any thrombi. Simultaneously, we chronicled neuro-embolic events that correlated with the presence of LAA thrombus, all within a 18 month period of follow-up.
